Instagram only lets you share one link in your bio. As a blogger however, you often have more things you would like to share with your audience. You might want to share your latest blog post, your Facebook page, your YouTube channel and who knows what else. Having only one clickable link associated to your account is a bit of a drawback if you have lots of things you want to share with your followers.
Which is where Linktree came in. Linktree is a website that allows you to create a landing page with all your chosen links that you want to share with your followers, customised with your colours and a pretty set up. This is great since with just that one link it allows you to share more than one site with your followers.
Linktree is super popular amongst Instagrammers, but I think it’s time to take things a step further. Why should you give Linktree all those clicks and traffic after all? Why not send them to your own website?
In this step-by-step guide I’ve put together a free Linktree that will also dramatically increase your blog traffic.

How to set up your own Linktree – the easy version
There are two methods you can use to set up your own Linktree alternative. The first one is easier, but also more basic.
Create a new page (not a post) in WordPress and give it a title that makes sense for users arriving from Instagram (eg. hi Instagram!)

Make a list of the links you want, each on a separate line. I make them bold and centred for personal preference.

Wrap each of these links in a box with a different colour background. To do this, use the code below. You have to switch to the “Text” tab on WordPress and put the link where it says TEXT. Click here to see different colour variations, you can change the colour by removing the #ffdfce and substituting it with the new colour you want. You can also edit the max width to fit your blog theme.
Copy and paste this!
<div style=”background-color: #ffdfce; padding: 1.0em; max-width: 60.0em; margin: 1.0em 0; border: solid 1.0px #cccccc;”><strong> TEXT 1 -</strong> Text 2</div>
<ul>

You might have to tweak it a bit when you go back to the “Visual” tab to make sure all the boxes and links look fine one next to the other.
There you go! You have a nice and simple Linktree alternative that instead of sending users away from your Instagram and to a third-party website sends them to your own blog, and from there they can decide where else to go next.

Make your own Linktree – the more time consuming version
There is another method you can use to set up your own Linktree, it’s a little bit more time consuming but will look a bit more pro than by using callout boxes.
For this method you need to create a Canva account. On Canva you can decide the size of the “buttons” you want on your Linktree, and you can create photos to use as click more buttons. This is a bit of a fancier method as it allows you to create buttons in your brand font and colours, customising it a bit more than just a box with a different colour background.

Once you have your buttons upload them to your Linktree page on WordPress. When you upload a photo check the bottom right under “Attachment Display Settings”, here you can add a link.

And you’re done! You now have a beautiful looking page with buttons that send your Instagram followers to the most important parts of your business that you choose to highlight, all while sending that extra bit of traffic to your blog and not a third party site like Linktree.

It makes sense to want to add more than one link to your Instagram bio. After all, you spend so much time attracting followers and building one social media platform, that you want to direct them to other parts of your business. That’s why platforms like Linktree were first created. However creating your own Linktree page shouldn’t take more than one hour, and it will allow you to direct all that traffic to your own blog instead of a third party site. No point sending your followers to some other site!
